TAL Insurance Brokers’ Commitment to Privacy
TAL is committed to protecting and respecting the privacy of our plan members and their family or dependent members. For that reason we have taken, and will continue to take, measures that protect the privacy of personal information held by us. Personal information is managed in accordance with the requirements of the Canadian Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, 2000 c.5 (“PIPEDA”). We encourage you to review our Privacy Statement to make sure that you understand how information that you provide will be used.
Collecting your Personal Information
 

TAL Insurance Brokers’ provides services to groups of individuals such as employees. Personal information we receive is most often in aggregate and does not reveal individual details of the member and member families. However, from time to time it is necessary to obtain an individual’s personal information. Generally, personal information is collected on the plan member or plan dependent in isolation to:

  • Access your eligibility for plan coverage.
  • To offer you products or services that meet your needs.
  • For routine activities such as audit, record-keeping and reporting.
TAL does not automatically gather any personal information from our website visitors, by cookies or other means. TAL does reserve the right, however, to collect and perform statistical analysis of the Internet traffic of our website for internal use. However, information collected does not allow TAL to identify any individual or any personal information of the visitors. Please read our website “Terms of Use” for more information.
 
Protecting your Personal Information
Consent: Members may be asked to provide TAL with personal information. TAL requires the specific consent of the plan member or plan dependant to collect, use and disclose personal information. TAL will not receive personal information unless accompanied by the written consent of the individual. You reserve the right to withdraw your consent. If at any time you wish to withdraw this consent, please advise us. However, please note that withdrawing consent may mean that we will be unable to provide certain services to you. We will explain the consequences of withdrawing consent, should you choose to do so.
Limited Collection, Disclosure and Retention: The collection of personal information is limited to only what is necessary for TAL and our third party affiliates to perform services related to the member’s plan. Generally, the disclosure of your personal information will be restricted to those who have a need for, and the right to, the information. Personal information is retained only for so long as is necessary for the purpose set out above. When no longer required we will destroy, erase or de-personalize the information. Legal requirements may necessitate our retaining some of all of the personal information for a period of time that is longer that we might otherwise hold it.
 

Safeguards: We make every effort to ensure that the information collected from you is protected against loss and unauthorized access, whether in electronic or paper formats. Our systems are designed to prevent unauthorized access and, within our organization, we limit access to your personal information to only those individuals who administer your group plan. Each employee in our organization has signed a confidentiality agreement further protecting your personal information. Lastly, we protect the confidentiality of your personal information when we deal with other persons or organizations (such as other benefit providers when settling claim payments), ensuring it is not used for any unauthorized purpose.

Providing Information Access and Accuracy
 

We will give our members and plan dependants access to personal information held by us concerning them. We will only provide information when a written request is provided with suitable identification. Personal information will only be provided to the individual in question. We encourage all plan members and potential plan members to provide accurate and up-to-date information at all times.

Respecting and Responding to Your Privacy Concerns
We will investigate and respond to your concerns about any aspect of our handling of your information.
